DIY Res Chiller For DWC?

Discussion in 'Do It Yourself' started by Don Piano, May 18, 2008.

  1. So I was in the can, and thought about how a DIY water chiller could be made. I don't know if anyone has tried what I am about to show you, or if anyone has a better method, but here goes a part list for a Water Chiller, to Keep your temps in check while doing DWC and other applications that call for a cooler Res temp. May I remind you that I have not built this nor do I intend to, nor do I know if there is a better way. I am not a hydro guy. Just trying to help out.:smoke:

    Two 3.5"-4" PC fans
    FREE-$10

Some 3/4" ID hose for input to chiller
A piece of 1/2" ID hose for output to res.
An old cell phone charger for hooking up your PC fans (as long as it will provide enough amperage to power 2 both fans with a little to spare) otherwise 2 chargers LOL. UNDER $15 I assume. (I am not going that far to look all that up, I did enough homework, if you want it you'll find those pieces)

Put it all together for under $200. I guess you can find some of these things cheaper, hell, you may modify it and do it for way less. I only went so far.

I guess that it will look like this. It will take someone to build it. Not me. Someone that has a need for a water chiller, and does not want to pay $300+ for one. I don't need one and was thinking of a past discussion in FullMetalJacket's thread. Why I designed it? Guess I am just trying to do my part to help people in the true DIY fashion. I certainly do not need one.:smoke:

Any questions or comments are welcome, as long as you are not too harsh. HAha

  2. Ok. I gotta answer myself now.
You could make this out of a standard office water cooler. (probably $150 or less) Should not be hard. Some may have access to certain items for free though, and that would make the fridge design a better option for them.
