I wouldn't smoke out of metal unless it's made for smoking, but you can do some research or try it out. I think the best way to make a small bowl for homemades is buying a chillum cause they can be used as downstems & bowls all in one piece.
DIY is always fun and creative, especially when it comes to making smoking tools. Anybody can find something to make and smoke out of, so its always fun to be able to take an everyday object, and make look as close to a real peice as you can. Me and my boyfriend made a bong out of a pringles can, and a pen tube with a socket for the stem. Have fun with it dude.
