Retired from the Navy in 2018. I’m a hobby wood worker and make all kinds of stuff. Here’s a couple tester trays I made for buddies.
you guys should never have given up hemp and canvas, as you still have way to much time on your hands
Beautiful woodwork mate!, I think it would also work with a lighter or darker stain (nothing wrong with your choice though), which I think speaks to the quality of the cuts themselves, that they could work with a wide variety of shades. I'd be proud if I did it I guess what I'm saying!
The leaf needs to be inlayed not protruding out in the middle of the tray . Looks nice but the leaf makes the tray not user friendly I also do wood stuff. Mainly a turner The inlay below was done using a CNC wood router.
I was thinking the same thing...beautiful workings, even better if hand carved and not CNC, but overall not practical in current form. Maybe pour some epoxy and let that be the new base
Epoxy will show up like a white foggy line around the inlay, either get it right or your work looks like shit. With the right 3 axis CNC and cutting bits it is possible to cut in sharp pointed inlays. I can cut in points on my mill . I can cut in points on a pool cue using 4 different machines I own. The best would be the Bridgeport Mill. My DIY 3 axis CNC I made does a good job too This is a Sharp pointed inlay which I have no issues with helping the OP, ( #1TheNubs ) learn how to cut in points on anything flat or round WestPac 1976
Spectacular although I mostly use glass these days those trays are amazing looking although I’d avoid the not flat part if rolling .
That's some impressive woodworking! Those tester trays look well-crafted. It's a great way to share your skills and create unique pieces for your buddies.
Nice work, anything other than trays? lol after years of eating from trays I avoid them, & wearing white.
