CLR on a bong, whats everyones thoughts on this?? Obviously cleaning it very good after with alot of ISO..
I've done it a couple of times and it didn't really seem to help much I have what looks like hardwater stains but didn't go away after the clr so I don't know what it is but just letting it soak in ISO helped more!
Well for hard water stains, white distilled vinegar works well if you let it sit for like a day. I suppose CLR couldn't hurt if you rinsed it right after and then washed it again. But CLR can remove labels, fuming, and colors. So it may not be a great idea. Personally I'd just stick with something like GO Super Soaker, Simple Green, or ISO+salt.
I use CLR after a few uses and when hard water stains appear on my glass. I just pour two shot glasses worth of CLR and plug the joint and fill up the bong with warm water and let soak for 2 minutes max then rinse with warm water and I don't get any hard water stains left. My labels haven't been affected by the CLR use nor the color of my glass. Thats my experience with it.
I've tried simple green and iso both 24 hour soaks and i still have mega hard water stains. I dont know what else try really...i have a shotgun cleaning kit with some wire brushes for barrels that can get in there but im not sure if itll scratch the glass up inside a lot... I guess ill try CLR next
do NOT use any sort of brush to clean your glass. you'll do nothing but scratch your glass permanently.
If he has hard water stains that's what causes it. Hard water stains mean high mineral content(from using unfiltered tap water). My bong is stained right now, I've always thought it was just resin but I did a little research and found out it was hard water stains. I read using CLR in your bong can be safe so long as you rinse it out with COLD water - hot water will result in an increased volume of water spots. I'm soaking my bong right now with simple green, hopefully it gets it out because it just makes my bong look terrible. If not I guess I will try CLR later on.
No problem man, glad I could help. Also, since my post above, I let my bong soak over night in simple green and it took the stains right out.
I've let my pipes and bong sit in CLR for over 24 hours.. Rinised with cold water then washed again, rinsed and perfect clean
I have an artistic dabber that got some hard water stains in it. I was looking for ways to clean it safely and I found your post! Thanks a lot, you made me realise my huge mistake of using kitchen sink water in it!! You do sound well informed and since Simple Green seems to have fixed your problem, would you have any other recommendations for chances of better results? Like: glass/Simple Green temperature, diluted or concentrate, etc. And i guess that rinsing it with demineralized water at the end of the washing process might be a good idea to remove any unfiltered water driplets?
Question can you send a link to the simple green you used? I have two dirty bongs, think it was from the sink water ice I used
Mean Green. My glass bong is spotless after at least 4 or 5 hours of just pouring it into your bong and leaving it sit. Alcohol and salt or just plain alcohol works a little but there's always this dark stain around the ice catcher. Mean Green, the degreaser in the spray bottle takes it right out. The bong is like brand new.
Yes. I use it on my glass bong. Make sure it's the degreaser that you get in the spray bottle. Do Not Use the floor polish, it will stain it. Best of luck! . Look forward to hearing results.
