Bong won’t clean help

Discussion in 'Bongs, Dab Rigs, Bubblers, Water Pipes' started by Ultramaxx, Jul 14, 2021.

  1. Consider the chemistry. What is it that is stuck on. It's a combination of tar and solids. Now consider... can I dissolve tar in alcohol? The answer is, no. Tar is nonpolar and alcohol is polar. You need a nonpolar aggressive solvent. The best I think would be carbon tetrachloride, then acetone. WD-40 is also a good solvent. It might be worth trying an ultrasonic cleaner too, that might shift it. And a test tube brush on the end of a Dremel.

  2. No way to get a brush to that spot.

  3. Don’t Have any , worried it could damage honeycomb perc probably not the glass itself tho .

no brush exists for stemless bongs like this too …
    Wish it did !!!

  4. Mine with "Salt stains" is still sitting in the closet soaking in simple crystal green.

  5. Were talking gravel. Like out in the road. just a little something to help scrape at the resin. It wont break the perc.

  6. Seems to me that it's a good idea to buy a bong that can be cleaned easily.

it’s definitely borosilicate … does epson salt stain it ? I’ve used boiling water it would had broke it it was bad glass …
I’d probably end up with a perc less bong then , wonder if downstem percs add much to them ..
Are any percs easy to clean ??? Or what

Yeah unfortunately honeycomb percs seem to make the build up accelerating, if I had simply got better cleaner years ago it would not bad built up so bad .
Probably been using too weak of iso .
If small gravel cannot damage borosilicate glass then that may be an option, and or cutting up a sponge or something….
What other abrasive stuff works better then salt ? Iodized salt didn’t do anything or epson … I’ll try kosher next

  8. Borosilicate glass is what my chemistry beakers are made of. Very resistant to thermal shock.

  9. Yes I’ve yet to consider one not made of it . Is Pyrex a lesser version I used to think they were the same thing ? I’m not sure what clear glass is tho ; I avoid anything knock off like that. Seems like lots of types of glass and boro wins .

  10. Pyrex is the trade name for the same formula. I use Pyrex beakers because they're thick and easy to handle. Chinese glassware is very cheap but also very fragile.

Yeah definitely not top shelf stuff … usually ,

  12. 91% iso didn’t work even soaking it for days , what exactly is stronger then it ? Besides 99% which is Uber pricey

Yeah hope I don’t need grunge off or something but clearly iso or 710 cleaner isn’t going to clean it off … is it like stained into the glass ?
Downfall of honey percs … all glass eventually gets stained ??
Probably should avoid the same perc again ehh …

  15. 99% iso is no "stronger" than 91 or 70%. they are all just majority concentrations of iso alcohol. if 70% alcohol and 91% alcohol didnt do the job, why the fuck would an extra 8% make any difference?

  16. Get that base repaired if you want to keep using that bong. I doubt it costs much and if the price is lower than replacing that exact piece than what's stopping you?

  17. Should had done that before supergluing it , I doubt that glue is removable without damaging it more . 5264FC21-1FE8-4741-A3A8-EA3B419D1465.jpeg 709CCD91-A9B3-4411-8E3D-AABB32624BD5.jpeg
The center tube section isn’t cracked just the base exterior. It’s not effecting taste or anything.. no glue in contact except for the outside of the glass .

  18. I'm guessing because it's his glass and he doesn't care. I doubt anyone would repair that for under the original cost of the piece. A simple straight tube honeycomb perc costs like $50 tops. He's probably spent more on cleaners trying to get that one tiny stray piece of resin out than the whole piece is worth.

  19. Are you still trying to clean that nasty bong? Treat yourself to a new one.

  20. That is just nasty. I'd be throwing that crap in the trash!. Sometimes you just gotta start over with a new bong and TRASH the old one!
