Bic lighters not lasting as long as they used to.

Discussion in 'Other Smoking Accessories' started by 209, Feb 17, 2011.

  1. Is it just me or are they putting less gas in these things?

one used to last a couple of weeks now lasts 2 or 3 days.
I switched stores cause I thought the employees were draining them so I would buy more. same problem, so I went to walmart where you can buy sealed Bics and same shit!

  2. Uh... I've had lighters last me months.

  3. I've had some Bic's for like a year... Do you constantly light them and mess with them?

  4. Yeah iunno bout that shit..you're either smoking some real kill or you're dicking around with your lighter(s) wayyy too much..like these dudes said, I've had Bic's last me seriously like..a month lol. And it's not like I was smoking once a week or anything ..

  5. always put your bic in your pocket with the top of the light to the top of your pocket. If not, the tab will get pushed down when you put it in your pocket and can get pushed as well as you walk and sit.

  8. deff had my pocket drain a few lighters that made them only last few days.

  9. I know that this was an old thread but I came across it because I Googled why are Bic lighters no longer lasting as long as they used to because I agree with you something has happened but I did not notice it in 2011 I live in Tennessee and I'm not sure if maybe they slowly did this across the country because I know for sure that everyone around here started complaining about it at the same time which has just been the past year or two. I completely disagree with everyone's ridiculous comments and the insults to such a simple question that you asked but I wonder now if those same people are not experiencing their lighters not lasting as long. it really ticks me off because they have always been the superior lighter and I have been willing to pay their prices over other lighters that are cheaper because Bics are the best or used to be anyway. My lighters used to last me months now they are only lasting a week maybe two and I have tried several different stores, or buying one without a sticker, a small one and a large one and solid color Bics trying to figure out if I could find one that would actually be full. There was no difference between any of them I even noticed on one white lighter that I could see the fluid in it and compared it with another white lighter and they both had the same amount of fluid and it was obvious they are no longer filling them full. So what I decided to do was to write down the date that I bought a lighter and the date that it died and keep the lighters so I can see how many I was going through in one month and then report this to Bic. So I contacted Bic and ask them if they have stop filling up the lighters of course he said no they should all be full and I read to him what I had written down about each lighter and how long it lasted he apologized got my address and told me that they would be sending me some lighters in the mail. Around two weeks later I got a huge box delivered to my house when I opened up the package there was a letter apologizing and saying I hope these letters will last longer and explaining that they had to be individually wrapped in a ziplock baggie for some reason. After reading the letter I remove the bubble wrap to find 10 small Ziploc baggies each one with a different product number on it but they forgot to put the lighters in the baggies!!!!! So no wonder the lighters are not working as long as they used to they can't even put a lighter in a baggie I don't even know how dumb someone has to be to go through all of that process and then forgetting to put the lighters in in what a waste of money it was to ship me an empty box especially when they probably ended up having to pay more simply because they used a huge box. sorry that was such a long reply but no you are not crazy everyone around here talks about it people at the gas station tell me they get complaints all the time so your complaint is real I've decided I'm good just going to go ahead and buy the cheap lighters that are clear and I can tell if I'm getting my money's worth

  10. I apologize if you had a hard time understanding my message there were a lot of errors in it. I talk my messages because my phone just seems too big for my hands not when I do that it always gets my messages wrong hopefully you can figure out what I meant

  11. I was thinking the same thing lately then saw this thread was 5 years old lol..

  12. Maybe the empty bags was "the jokes on you here's all that missing gas you so meticulously documented and complained about" . Been using them for 30 years.. they either meet a timely death or they get lost in the shuffle. Not worth the time to worry over $1.29 that lasts AT LEAST a month.

  13. Don't worry, properly conveying your message doesn't seem very important around here.

  14. I can't keep one long enough to notice a difference.

  15. If I'm smoking ounce after ounce + resin, they'll go fast due to heavy use.

But I have like 3-4 of the fuckers I can't seem to get rid of because they last so long.

  16. Doesn't even matter with me, I lose 3 a week before they even have a chance to run out of fluid. Lol

  17. Get a D'Jeep, you'll never lose it. Should last you 2 years

  18. This thread is old but I just noticed the same thing a few months ago. Sure enough, they are only about 1/3 full now. I'm guessing the lighter's reservoir is probably now smaller too (thicker plastic?).

  20. No it is definitely not just you. I've only noticed it recently where I live in the Midwest but I did the same thing started buying lighters that were in sealed Packaging and it didn't make a damn difference. I've been smoking for over 20 years I'm pretty consistent and these damn lighters are burning up two times faster than they ever did before.
