BHO purity check

Discussion in 'Concentrate Tools' started by M3ssenger, Dec 23, 2012.

  1. its opaque because it is jam packed with plant lipids, which are extremely dangerous to your lungs to dab.

  2. Wrong. I can take unwinterized, chocked full of wax runs and make them clear as glass. In fact pure thc is translucent/opaque.

Also nucleation can cause opaque so clarity really isn’t a good indicator of remaining residual solvents. It may indicate other issues with the process used but clarity alone cannot indicate residuals or not.

Also when you dab the YES it’s going to bubble. That means nothing at all. Ever dabbed rosin? Go watch vids if not. It’s solventless dabs and it still bubbles. Ffs the amount of heat it takes how could it not bubble? Also ever heard of decarbing? Is all the bubbling from a decarb butane? No! Lol.

As if a dab is just gonna evaporate into nothing without bubbling off. Lol...

Sorry to revive an old thread but it comes up in the top of a google search about bho purity so wanted to update this thread incase others found it.

  3. To test actual purity of BHO at home by yourself all you can do is flame test. If it passes then not saying it’s 100% pure, but you can rest assured that it was at least processed well.

Look up and watch some nasty flame tests that fail the test on youtube if you need a reference. It’s pretty obvious when it has butane left in it.

That is it. Nothing else. Not color, clarity, stability, form, smell etc... there is no way to tell by looking and/or smelling.

Butane is completely odorless. If you think you can smell butane. You are probably just high af.

And in CO, you can’t get lab testing unless your sample is entered into a statewide system, which requires licenses etc.... in other words, they are going to want to know how someone made bho when making it is very illegal without license.

So there you go. Flame test, or just dab rosin. But I’d not think twice about dabbing anything that passes flame test. To pass when you run dab through the flame, not just under it, it should FIRST melt down smaller, THEN bubble a bit. The bubbling IS NOT an indicator of purity. Thc will start decarbing at 212F ish. Your lighter is so much hotter than that.

And should you have something not passing, well at least when you lit the dab on fire, that should have taken care of the residual butane lol.
