if you dont want to buy a little acyrilic bong or glass then just make a homemade one 1 metal downstem/metal bowl from a headshop. 1 water/gatorade/whatever plastic bottle water zebra 301 pen shaft lighter take the pen shaft of the zebra and heat it up for about 30 seconds then burn a hole about the size of the downstem (better a little too small than a little too big), put the downstem in, fill it with water and hit that shit! wrap aluminum foil around the part that is touching the water bottle directly and put it in for a better seal. im so high
Because the extremely hot smoke is more than enough to cause the plastic to outgas. I've experienced it. It will destroy your lungs.
If you're already in the headshop for the stem, just buy a real piece. And anyone that is old enough to go into a HS probably doesn't need to make a bong.
if you really are just keen not to buy a bong but still insist on having the stem and cone (good investments and something you should have handy anyway) invest in a glass drill bit set. and learn to drill glass bottles. healthyer, inexpensive, easily replaced, recyclable, makes for good gifts if you have spare bottles.

following Greenpurpleson's advice i went down to my headshop invested $15 in a long glass stem and a bowl piece. best investment to my smoking i have made yet. i use it so often and i make my own bongs all the time so it's nice to have something somewhat healthy. i just use it in plastic bottles for now, until i can find something somewhat more permanent to use it in. i may go out and buy some glass drill bits too, i go through many alcohol bottles and it would be nice to have a replaceable glass bong.
