Thin glass is fragile, thick glass, much less so. Outdoors you gotta worry about wind, rain, keeping things dry, a hand pipe is waterproof & indestructible within reason. If you can keep them dry a pack of rolling papers don't weigh much. No wrong answer, your choice.
