  1. ^^ GREAT idea.

  2. Gotta go out for a bit. When i get back im gonna go ahead and make it. Cheers:wave:

  3. Iwien, you're kind of a huge dick.

Everyone else: It won't be long before I have it figured out on my own. But it doesn't hurt to ask, except in the case of easily-offended people. FYI I emailed the company already about this, but that's not really any of your business.

I'll share something new when I want to.

As someone at FC just stated, what is REALLY funny here, considering what you've done, is your sig, "Think for yourself." A bit ironic, don't ya think?

  5. For those interested, I figured it out on my own. There's nothing special about their screens at all, apart from the fact that they are resistant welded together.

I remember reading this somewhere: For the screen, every extra mm means there are more wires connected in parallel to the current source. This allows the current to be divided, reducing the heat output. Shortening the screen reduces the number of connections, increasing the current flowing through each wire on the screen, thus increasing the heat.
In other words, the fine engineering in the screen is in its dimensions.

@ Iwien: I'm a final year engineering student. (What are you, like, grade 10?) Ever heard of reverse-engineering? I was just trying to save some time by asking someone who knows the answer, dude, calm down and stop hijacking my thread.

I take it you guys don't want any more WIP posts. Expect significant results by the end of September.

Ok first lwien was in grade 10 before either of us were born as far as i know:p. There is NO problem whatsoever with asking to speed up the process. I think the problem was more of how you went about it. When you made your first few posts we just assumed you had the basics down and were moving on to improvements. I'm no engineer by any means so i applaud your effort so far, but i just find it hard to understand how you can say you would be able to make these improvements, include all the current functions, AND offer the same warranty; all at the same price.

Anyway keep posting updates because even if lwien, or myself for that matter, have lost a little faith; I'm sure others would love to see your effort.

Edit: If you plan on adding some sort of switch to circuit, I would def think about advertising you would be able to keep the same warranty. MF has said it before over at FC i believe, switches or buttons increase the units fail rate quite a bit and that's why they never included one. They wouldn't be able to offer the same warranty. Anytime i see someone complain about the price of the box, i try to explain that the unit was built simply to reduce unit failure and be able to offer a warranty like they do. The price also goes into this. the vape could cost 20 bucks to make and i wouldn't care. Knowing i can get a new vape if ANYTHING goes wrong with it other then loosing it is also nice. Hell i could get shitfaced and throw it at a brick wall and im 100% sure MF would replace it.

  8. Already saw that :p. It was a good starting place. I find it interesting everyone's trying to copy it exactly instead of improving upon the design. I mean, you saw on mine, a 10A rated switch is all you need for an on/off switch that you don't have to hold down hard all the time.

Of course, everyone is taking my work far too literally. I'm going to cut down on bulk and stuff, but right now I'm just getting all the theory of the magic flight launch box using inexpensive parts before I create the circuit with the expensive parts that is much smaller and more condensed.

But it's okay. It's not a big deal.

Hater's gonna hate like bitches gonna bitch. The haters just don't understand that I understand how it works.

......without even knowing how the damn thing heats up.

Very odd, to say the least, but I too would like to see what you come up with.

Oh, and the grade 10 thing. I graduated college, served 4 years in the Air Force and helped my wife give birth to twin boys who both graduated high school before you were born. ;)

I really do wish you luck with this Kurt. It's just that when I suggested that you go to FC to bounce around your ideas, you instead, did something quite a bit different and in so doing, lost a lot of credibility over at FC which is a shame being that there is a wealth of knowledge there that you could have tapped into.

I would be more interested in seeing you leave another man's creation alone and invent something original!
Oh and the question before that.....
YES I would rather buy from a company... one that supports original thinking, with a proven track record of "spreading the love"!

  11. Yup we did take it to literally, but hey we like our vapes round deeez parts:p. I posted the idea a page or 2 back about making it like a battery pack with 2 2700 mah type bats, then connecting them to the box. With a little increase on size you might be able to fit the inside (or mostly) the housing. The switch that would be needed is what kills any hope of the same warranty. As far as i know things would get real expensive real quick. Broken switches on the part of the owner plus normal failure rates would mean A LOT of replacement units. You could increase the price to compensate but then you are getting into the realm of desk tops like the DBV and if a person dosent need stealth they will buy that. If a person does need stealth then most would be happy with the boxes current design. Your vape would have to find it's own niche in the market, much like the arizer solo is. Not very stealthy but mobile. Brings hits comparable with a desk top, but with more mobility.

  12. Whoa there vito :p. You'll have the uncle of vapors here to him dem be fightin words:p. What i was tryin to get at in my last post was there isn't a snowballs chance in hell of you replacing the flight box in its niche. It's perfect for what it's made to be. There , however, is the possibility of replacing ,say, the ilolite with a unit based off the LB design.

  13. head to ur local radio shack for some lithium AA batteries (y)

  14. Yeah, I had thought of that too. It's probably going to be like that. It won't be that hard to fit the circuitry and the trench around it rather compactly. I can't say dimensions yet, but we're looking at something as small as 4 AA's in a 2x2 arrangement. It's likely it will be a bit bigger, but it will be shaped to fit in the hand nicely. I've written all of your suggestions down on paper, and I will try to include as many as I can in the final design.

What you guys don't understand is that I got this. What I'm doing is in my degree. I've paid a university $30,000 and counting for this knowledge. I'm not stealing anything, I'm simply learning how it works. I figured out how it works, and know how to make it work better.

It's a very clever idea, Magic Flight's cheap and reliable heating element. But the idea isn't their property unless they has a patent on it, thus legally I'm allowed to use the same component in my otherwise totally different vapourizer.

    Jynx! Loose a lynx
Go outside to do your stinks
I'll wander around for a shuvvle of days!
Then I'll shuvvle on back another ways.

    -----------

As far as the switch goes, well, that will be my secret. Since it seems asking another company to share rustles people's feathers around here, I suppose I should keep how to do it a secret. Magic flight couldn't figure it out.

    ----------

    For everybody:

You should be welcoming competition. Competition drives prices lower. Lower prices means more customers for everyone. Prices become fair. Nobody loses.

  15. Have you done a patent search?

  16. Lets chill out with the name-calling and disrespect, let this dude try and do his thing don't be a hater!

    Name calling? Where? :confused_2:

  18. Kurt,

what are your ideas on the design of the entire vaporizer itself?

Your video was a nice teaser, looks good, but I think what most people want to see is some kind of design or projection of what the product will look like.

As much as I would like to, it's too early to be able to give a final design. The design depends a lot on the parts inside. since I'm hoping to make it as compact as possible. I don't have all the parts for the real circuit yet, so I don't have a final design yet.

That being said, here's what the current design concept looks like. (Feel free to suggest other designs. Seriously, I would really like to see some!)

Also, to all the naysayers, I decided to build a MFLB today. It was super easy. It would be super easier if I had the right tools. Please excuse the sloppy bevel on the plexiglass. I'm going to make another top for it tomorrow and just carefully sand off the burrs.

Oh God. So you built something that looks like a LaunchBox. A 10 year old can do that is shop class. The real test of building a LaunchBox is if it works and if it creates a satisfying vapor experience.

In the design of the original LB, there were countless hours spent with spectral analyzers analyzing the air flow characteristics along with temperature changes and how they reacted with another. While it looks like a very simple design, getting that design to work as well as it does is quite another.

Building a look-a-like LaunchBox as an answer to the naysayers, of which I am one, answers absolutely nothing for all you have done is build something that kind of looks like a LaunchBox. Let's see the insides and the design of the trench, along with a video of it actually producing vapor. At least then, we would know that you are capable of building a copy. Then the next task would be to improve upon it.

Kurt, I'm going to ride your ass throughout this whole thread, not because of any mean streak that I have, but rather because you've come up with some great ideas in the beginning of this thread, and I for one, would LOVE to see you create a LaunchBox-type device that had better battery life along with a potentiometer to control the temp while being able to offer it at the same price point with the same warranty, same stealth factor and same reliability, for if you did that, you would not only have a winner, but you would motivate Magic Flight to make an already great product even better.

But showing us what you just did and then stating that it was super easy, as an answer to the "naysayers" is going in the wrong direction.
