Hi. So in the process of making shatter I got some plant material in it. After purging I winterized it in 91% iso(about a quart of iso, 10 grams shatter) Anyways, I have done this before using a pyrex 9x13 on top of a pan of boiling water. I decided to forgo this because it takes forever to evap the alcohol and my house REEKS of iso for hours. I ended up using a water distiller. It worked great, recovered all the iso and it only took about 15 minutes. I then poured out the residual oil/iso mix and purged it. I was left with a black oily goo. Even when frozen it wont entirely stiffen up. It will hold its form but even frozen it's still sticky. What did I do wrong?
I'm no expert but it sounds like you just made oil. RSO if you decarb it, otherwise hash oil seems shatter involves a few more steps.... HelloMD | Cannabis Products & Community cheers
Theres a lot that can go wrong that can cause oil to become dark, one thing that causes that when everything is done right is older buds. The fresher from harvest you are the clearer the rosin/oil you make.
