Dirtridge, you are right about the chemicals being released and possibly inhaling them, since in fact you are still filtering something through that water that potentially may have these chemicals released (after a long period of time). But, as hippie4u stated, that will be well beyond the life of the bong. These infact will not last as long as glass, and will eventually need recycled. But as long as you don't keep water in it 24/7 and clean it regularly, they will last several years at least.

Here's a little information on PETE plastic:
    Degradation

PET is subject to various types of degradations during processing. The main degradations that can occur are hydrolytic, thermal and, probably most important, thermal oxidation. When PET degrades, several things happen: discoloration, chain scissions resulting in reduced molecular weight, formation of acetaldehyde, and cross-links ("gel" or "fish-eye" formation). Discoloration is due to the formation of various chromophoric systems following prolonged thermal treatment at elevated temperatures. This becomes a problem when the optical requirements of the polymer are very high, such as in packaging applications. The thermal and thermooxidative degradation results in poor processibility characteristics and performance of the material.
One way to alleviate this is to use a copolymer. Comonomers such as CHDM or isophthalic acid lower the melting temperature and reduce the degree of crystallinity of PET (especially important when the material is used for bottle manufacturing). Thus, the resin can be plastically formed at lower temperatures and/or with lower force. This helps to prevent degradation, reducing the acetaldehyde content of the finished product to an acceptable (that is, unnoticeable) level. See copolymers, above. Another way to improve the stability of the polymer is to use stabilizers, mainly antioxidants such as phosphites. Recently, molecular level stabilization of the material using nanostructured chemicals has also been considered.
    [edit] Acetaldehyde

Acetaldehyde is a colorless, volatile substance with a fruity smell. Although it forms naturally in some fruit, it can cause an off-taste in bottled water. Acetaldehyde forms by degradation of PET through the mishandling of the material. High temperatures, (PET decomposes above 300 C or 570 F), high pressures, extruder speeds (excessive shear flow raises temperature), and long barrel residence times all contribute to the production of acetaldehyde. When acetaldehyde is produced, some of it remains dissolved in the walls of a container and then diffuses into the product stored inside, altering the taste and aroma. This is not such a problem for non-consumables (such as shampoo), for fruit juices (which already contain acetaldehyde), or for strong-tasting drinks like soft drinks. For bottled water, however, low acetaldehyde content is quite important, because, if nothing masks the aroma, even extremely low concentrations (10–20 parts per billion in the water) of acetaldehyde can produce an off-taste.

So, according to this; basically even if this chemical is released, it isn't going to kill (or even hurt) you. Especially if you aren't drinking it. According to the article, PET plastic doesnt decompose until above 500 degrees Fahrenheit either, in which this instance the smoke is much cooler than that anyways. No matter how much smoke is there, there is no way "fumes" or "toxins" are released if they aren't being heated to a specific temperature. End of story. If its cool enough to enter an organic material like your lungs, its not going to melt plastic. Nom sayin'?

I agree that glass is always better! And I own several glass pieces, but that wont hinder my creativity either way :smoke:

Smells just as bad as any bong :p Cleaning it with ISO alcohol works just fine (not sure about other cleaners), doesn't damage anything whatsoever!

ha... i never said mine were better... vastly different designs using similar materials...i dont intend nor do i care to be superior to anybody here on gc... its the interweb... look at my post count, i only post if i see something that catches my fancy... theses pieces did because of there superiority to most homemades that i come across... and as a fellow homemade builder im always looking to improve... and i know just by looking at the creativity of somebody else, i can be inspired to take a new direction... what i was trying to get across was that this phenomenon is universal, but as always the internet increases stupidity... why are you so keen on jumping in on a conversation i was having with sleepy?

"how much technobabble and nitpicking you do. Just stop, it's REALLY starting to get annoying."
and its funny how you spoke to soon... that is after sleepys protest on pet

You see, there is a big difference between technobabble and sourced facts. You just started throwing out physics terms tried to pretend that sleepy didn't know how percolators work. Sleepy posted multiple sources that proved his points and others. How is that anywhere near comparable?

And if you want to have a conversation as you say, perhaps the best place to have that conversation might not be in a public thread on a public forum, where anyone can throw in their two cents and talk. If you want to have a conversation, then use PM, cause that's what it is there for.

And the reason I care so much is that before you started with all your shit, this thread was cool. Just pictures of awesome home made bongs and people all giving constructive feedback on them. Then you come in and post multiple walls of text, berating and assuming that anyone even wants your opinion. I mean, it's pretty obvious that Sleepy does not appreciate your "help", and nobody else here does, so why are you still here?

And while I would be inclined to agree with your last point in general, I want to make sure you know that the reason sleepy is not taking your advice is not because the internet has closed him mind to his liking, but because nobody want to learn from an uppity douchebag with a superiority complex.

  5. I am charging my camera now, homemade coming up in a bit.

Its not about being narrow minded, bub. I appreciate the suggestions, but its all basic information that is obvious has already been obtained. Its like telling an artist or musician how to change their style because of the "music and art theory" someone studied. People have their own style of doing/making things, and that's how it goes. :bongin:

Now lets be civil and get back to business!

This ones from a little while ago, but still one of my favorites (55 slit inline to dome perc):

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGQ9IGqCUKM[/ame]

Then I got tired of the dome perc on the top (it was okay) so I cut it off and combined it with parts from other homemades. I forgot to mention the one a few pages back (the simple straight tube); the perc on the top is removable. lol. So here's how the combo turned out:

  7. technobabble... where? the biggest concept i used was drag coefficients and thats first year physicis... common knowledge to my community. I could hyper link wiki, but i dgaf if you guys dont understand what i am saying nor deem it credible in your feeble minds. However sleepy went on a rant, cited or not.

if i want to have a conversation, i will continue doing what im doing... it works for me. Yes everybody can throw in there .02 but i falsely assumed that gc was mature enough to hold an honest conversation....

haha and if you really think hard about it... i was the one one giving constructive feedback, not just saying it was cool like the first two pages.... shitloaf was the only direct negative comment, which can be expected with anything other than glass, and your first response was the first post not pertaining to the thread... your message was about me

so if you step back and look, i cannot fathom a reality in which any of your points hold truth....

o ps im still here because you respond... be the bigger man and dont respond.... i said /gh which meant i was out, but your internet tuff guy complex prevents you from letting sleepy fight is own battle...

  8. Go argue over PMs, I dont want this shit clogging up my thread -__-

  9. this what?

  10. haha yea i would think so, just didnt know you could clean it with rubbing alchohol! i just threw my inventions out since they got to smelling really bad. i have had a few good creations maybe we can talk about some things or materials

  11. sick ass design man!
diggin the song too man ;D two worlds of design- BOO?

  12. Thanks man!
And you are correct, it is Two Worlds of Design! That whole album is great! :hello:

    Glad ya dig the music

  13. You make the best homemade pieces ever. Would you ever make a tutorial for one of your epic pieces or tell where you get the materials? I bet you get that asked alot but just wondering haha! Keep doing what u do cause its awsome c ya bro!

  14. ummmmmmmmmmmm i don't think so. sleepys pieces are on a whole another level compared to yours. LULZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:p

  15. I agree with this. A tutorial on how to make a perc or many even the whole piece would be greatly appreciated. :smoke:

  16. Subbed, for inspiration. These pieces are very sweet. Instead of using hot glue guns, would melting the plastic together be a possible way to bind the pieces together?

oh and what did you use for the tubing and the stems for the bowls?

  17. Requesting homemade gb with some water filtration/diffusion built in. Would be original, look fucking tight, and get you baked as shit :smoking:

Just my memories of when I use to take 2 liter gbs of dank on no tolerance. Holy fuck, highest Ive ever been and probably ever will be

  18. Water filtered Gravity Bong, hmmm the possibilities. :smoke:

It would have to be an attachment of some sort that could be removed when you want to clear it, but I'm sure its possible in the future! Its been a while since Ive used a GB! I remember those novice days, first trying out a GB on no tolerance, hacking my lungs up and needing to lay down. haha

Im glad you like em! As far as melting the pieces together; it sounds good in theory, but in order to get in cramped spaces, underneath things, etc.. with thin plastic and making it 100% sealed is pretty much impossible without burning or melting/warping the plastic. So I just prefer the hot glue, since It can be easily added on to, reheated/reformed, and has a waterproof bond on almost any type of plastic.

The stems for the bowls is 1/2" vinyl tubing, along with the appropriate right angle adapter.

Sorry I dont really have the time to do that

Tutorials require a lot of patience, picture taking, diagrams, explaining and all that. When Im building something, I don't really stop on each step to take pics and examine it, I just build it. So trying to make a tutorial is unnatural for me. Its not as much how to build a perc that you need to know, its HOW the perc works. Once you know the basic physics of a percolator, the sky's the limit with your creativity. :bongin:

Here's a new type of perc I've been tryin out, the "Turbine". It was my first attempt and I know I could make it better, but not bad nonetheless :smoke:

**FINALLY got the video to embed!

  20. Wow that's lovely. Question; what do you use for the inline, showerhead and right angle piece? Also how can you fit a glass slide into the down stem?
