Study Finds Cannabis Could Be Used To Treat Psoriasis

  • Comments

As we gear up for 4/20 tomorrow, we are again reminded of all of the awesome things that this plant can do. Cannabis is not only good for treating internal medical conditions, but external conditions as well. It seems that researchers at the University of Colorado have found that cannabis can be quite effective in treating skin conditions, from minor rashes, all the way up to psoriasis. If you don’t know anyone who suffers from psoriasis, try googling it. Make sure that you’re not eating.

Researchers at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus figured out that they could use the anti-inflammatory properties in cannabis and use them to treat skin conditions such as eczema, and psoriasis.

Lead study author Dr. Robert Dellavalle had this to say, “Perhaps the most promising role for cannabinoids is in the treatment of itch.” Though the condition itself is a huge problem, skin conditions are often exacerbated by patients’ compulsive scratching of the affected area. Study results showed that a third of patients who used a cannabis topical saw a complete elimination in their itchiness.

Of course, Dr. Dellavalle wants everyone to know that these are only preliminary results. A lot more work needs to be done, such as clinical trials, before it is recommended that people use cannabis to treat their psoriasis or dermatitis, especially in lieu of other medications. The results are promising though.

People have been using cannabis topicals for thousands of years, so these results shouldn’t really be all that surprising to anyone. I used some cannabis lotion on a tattoo that I got recently and it healed way faster than my other tattoos. Oh cannabis, is there anything you can’t do?
