How Smoking a Joint Saved Kevin Smith’s Life

  • Comments

Kevin Smith had a massive heart attack back in February. It should have killed him, but one thing saved his life: weed. Prior to having his heart attack, Smith had smoked a joint. His doctor said that this kept him calm enough not to kill him. The heart attack happened as a result of a 100 percent blockage in his LAD artery, and is normally in most circumstances fatal, hence why it is referred to as the “widow-maker.”

During an appearance on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Kevin Smith recalls the time he nearly died. “I honestly thought I was too high,” Smith said. “I’d smoked a bunch of weed that day because I was doing the show and then I smoked a joint right before the show and then I got off stage and all of a sudden I had a heart attack.”

Smith asked his doctor if he had smoked too much weed and if that was why he’d had a heart attack. His doctor said that it was “quite the opposite”, and that the joint he had smoked right before he did his stand up set had made it possible for him to survive.

We’ll go ahead and add “save people from dying from heart attacks” to the list of things that weed can do. Forget taking one aspirin a day to prevent heart attacks. I’m just going to keep smoking joints! Considering how beneficial cannabis use is for staving off the side effects of aging, I think I’ll probably start smoking even more weed than I already do. A joint a day keeps the heart attacks away!
