2) The Wooden Base
For the wooden base, start by cutting a 7" section from a 2"x6". Cut an opening big enough for the switch to fit into. Use a hand saw and a coping saw for this. I made mine 2-1/2"x1-7/8". Make yours to fit the dimmer switch. The end piece is 1/2" thick and is glued and screwed to the main piece. Drill a 1/2" hole for the soldering iron about 2-1/2" in on the other side for the wires to go through. Also, you'll need to put some little stick-on feet on the bottom so it doesn't sit on the wires. I made a simple shape for this one, but you can shape it and round the edges to give it a more finished look.
