Everyone’s least favorite person in US Government, (okay second least, Trump is obviously number one) is at it again, that’s right it’s Jeff “good people don’t smoke marijuana” Sessions. Attorney General Jeff Sessions was at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona earlier this week giving a speech. He talked about border security, and military spending (spoiler: both are going way up), and of course cannabis.
AG Sessions said that he was surprised that cannabis was so popular and more voters weren’t on board with his plans for a federal crackdown on recreational cannabis. Sessions said, “When they nominated me for attorney general, you would have thought the biggest issue in America was when I said, ‘I don’t think America’s going to be a better place if they sell marijuana at every corner grocery store.’”
First of all, no Mr. Sessions, the American people did not nominate you. Donald Trump did, and you were then confirmed by the Senate. Barely. We, the voters had no say in the matter, and you’d better believe that if we had, we would not have chosen you.
Secondly, Jeff Sessions is calling for a return to the policies of the failed “war on drugs”, which has resulted in the transformation of the US into a prison state, and a prescription pill epidemic that has resulted in countless deaths and not to mention lives ruined by addiction. Why would we want that?
Sixty percent of adults in the US support cannabis legalization, according to a gallup poll last fall. Jeff Sessions’ approval rating when he was a senator was 54% with a 26% disapproval rating. He hasn’t been AG for long, but I imagine his approval rating as AG will end up being much lower, especially if he plans to bring back the drug policies of the nineties.
