Disney World Bans Cannabis From Its Parks

  • Comments

Disney’s Magic Kingdom just got a little less magical, as Disney World has officially banned cannabis from its parks. The ban became apparent when Disney updated their site to include cannabis on their list of items they prohibit from their parks.

A spokesman for Disney told an NBC News local affiliate, “Although some states have legalized marijuana for medicinal or recreational use, marijuana remains illegal under federal law. We are revising our rules to clarify that marijuana is not permitted on our property.”

It should be noted here that recreational cannabis is not legal in Florida, so what Disney World is doing is banning people from bringing in their medicine. I can understand them not wanting people to smoke a joint right outside Sleeping Beauty’s castle. Disney World is supposed to be a family place, after all. What about the people who take cannabis in tincture form? Or edibles? If someone were to take a discreet drag from their vape pen, is that really harming anyone?

Disney’s policy shows that they do not consider cannabis to be medicine. They think that their patrons who use medicinal cannabis just want to bring weed into Disney World so that they can get stoned. Also, why should federal law have anything to do with whether or not people can bring their medicine into the park? Disney World is the property of the Disney corporation, and they have the right to ban whatever they want from their parks. Federal prohibition shouldn’t matter.

There’s no indication that Disneyland, located in California, plans to do the same, but one imagines that they will.
