Today the cannabis world is in mourning, as we’ve learned that legendary cannabis growing pioneer and business icon Franco Loja has passed away at the age of 42. Loja contracted a rare form of malaria while visiting the Congo on humanitarian business. Loja passed away quietly on Monday night.
Loja was the breeder at the Amsterdam based company Greenhouse Seeds. He made it his mission to travel the world in search of new strains. He also helped put smaller, unknown growers on the map with his documentary series “Strain Hunters”, available on You Tube.
Loja is also known for breeding some of the world’s most potent and flavorful strains of cannabis, bred from seeds that he discovered during his travels. A quote from Loja on the company’s tribute page states, “Cannabis is my passion, my bread, my home. I feel it is my duty to make sure this amazing plant is preserved and enjoyed. I am a smoker, a grower, a breeder, and a strain hunter.”
The cannabis world has no doubt lost a valued member of the community and a dear friend as well. Franco Loja always used his notoriety do good work for cannabis advocacy. He was dedicated to the plant, and for that we tip our hats to him. When you go to light up today, spark one up for our lost friend. As an avid fan of his You Tube series, as well as his work in the industry, I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say, he will be missed.
