A new gym is set to open this fall in San Francisco that will support the use of cannabis in combination with fitness. Power Plant Fitness has the goal to change the stereotypical views surrounding cannabis users by integrating cannabis use with fitness goals.
“It won’t be a place to get high and just screw around. We are focused on the athletic side, not the cannabis side,” says Jim McAlpine, founder of 420 Games and co-founder of Power Plant Fitness, wrote in a blog on the company’s website.
McAlpine was also the founder of 420 Games, an Olympic-styled athletic competition series that has activities all over the country. The athletic events include various options from triathlons, obstacle courses, and the signature 4.20 run, the event first took place in San Francisco in 2014.
In a e-mail to TechInsider, McAlpine described that the gym will be an effort to continue spreading the message of the 420 games, and to reverse the negative lazy stoner stereotype. He states that all of the gym’s new members will take a “cannabis performance assessment” while being supervised by gym staff to create a workout and cannabis consumption plan specific to them.
The facility will allow members to consume cannabis via vaporizers and edibles inside the gym, and plans to eventually open an outdoor smoking area to allow members to smoke traditionally, as well.
Sign me up! Hopefully this catches on and similar gyms are built in more places, I love going to the gym while high. What about you? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
