5 Tips For Dealing With A Roomie Who’s Stealing Your Stash

  • Comments

Most of us have lived with a roommate before. In this economy, you have almost no choice but to live with a roommate. If you’re lucky, you get a roomie who smokes weed. Things are pretty chill for a while. You enjoy getting baked together, you swap pieces, basically your stoner roommate becomes your live-in best friend. Then the unthinkable happens: you begin to suspect they are stealing your stash. How are you supposed to deal with that buzzkill?

First, Confirm Your Suspicions

Before you do anything else, you have to make sure that your roomie is in fact stealing your stash. It would suck if it turned out that you were just smoking too much of it and forgetting how much you had left. You have to have proof. There are a number of ways you can do this. You can leave a nug out brazenly on your desk. If you come home and it’s gone, then your roommate is totally stealing from you. The thing is, if they are stealing your stash they are not going to be so blatant about it. Thieves are sneakier than that. Try taking a picture of your stash before leaving the house. When you get home that night, compare your stash with the picture you took that morning. If anything looks out of place, then your roomie is probably stealing from you.

Try Hiding Your Stash In A Different Place

If you want to avoid a confrontation, you should just try moving your stash to a different place. If you store it in a safe or a locked cabinet, then that will eliminate the problem entirely. It’s not like your roommate is going to say anything when they can’t get into your stash anymore. Then you should probably start looking for a new roommate, because who wants to live with a thief. However, if you do want to go the direct confrontation route you will need to…

Catch Them In The Act

If you want to confront your thieving roomie, then you’re going to need definitive proof, otherwise it’s your word against theirs. You’re going to have to catch them in the act. There’s only one way to do this: get a camera. Luckily, thanks to modern technology there are plenty of ways to purchase hidden cameras. I know you probably don’t want to resort to this, but they left you no choice. Set up a hidden camera somewhere in your room before you leave for the day. Then you’ve got your proof.

Don’t Be Nice About It

When you’re confronting your roommate be sure to stand your ground. Your roommate may try to make excuses or plead with you. Don’t fall for it. You’re dealing with a scumbag who steals weed, after all. They have betrayed your trust. Tell them they have until the end of the month to find a new place to live and a new sucker to steal from.

Take The High Road

You might be tempted to seek revenge on your roomie. You may want to kick their ass, or bait them with some moldy weed. Be an adult about it. If you guys have mutual friends, you should tell them, in case the thief moves in with them after you kick their ass to the curb. If you live in a legal state and your roommate was stealing a ton of weed from you, then you may consider getting local law enforcement involved. They were stealing your property after all. Maybe take them to small claims court. Go on Judge Judy.
