5 Must Know Things About High Quality Glass

Sometimes, you don’t know that you got a crappy, low quality piece until it’s too late and it’s lying in a million pieces at your feet. So, how do you differentiate between high quality glass and the cheap stuff? These are the things that you need to be on the lookout for the next time you’re shopping for a new piece.

It Will Be Borosilicate

If you want to know if the piece that you’re looking at buying is high quality, the first thing that you need to do is find out if it’s made from borosilicate glass. For those who need a quick refresher, borosilicate glass is a type of glass made from boron trioxide and silica. Borosilicate glass is more heat resistant than other types of glass, making it ideal for glass pieces.

Good Glass Costs More

Unless you’re buying a used piece off of a site like ebay, or Craigslist, high quality glass is going to cost more. That’s just the natural order of things. Most of the time, when you want the best quality of something, you’re going to have to pony up a little more for it. The nice thing about high quality glass is that it lasts longer, and thus doesn’t need to be replaced as often.

Thick Glass ≠ High Quality Glass

A common misconception with high quality glass is that it’s thicker than other types of glasses. This is not actually the case. A thick piece, like a 9mm piece is very durable if the glass is high quality glass. However, if a 9mm is made of crappy quality glass then it’s way more likely to break. So remember, just because a piece is made of thicker glass, does not mean that it’s high quality glass.

It’ll Be A Name You Trust

I’m sure you’re all already aware of this, but if you want to make sure that the piece that you’re buying is high quality, then make sure that it’s from a brand or an artist who is well known for making high quality glass pieces. Some brand names that you can trust are, Grav Labs, Graffix, Illadelph, and Weed Star Glass, just to name a few. Of course, anything that you buy from Grasscity, is guaranteed to be of the highest quality.

Not Made In China

The thing that you should know about glass that is imported from China, is that it’s very cheaply made; hence why it costs less. The highest quality glass is going to be made either in the US, or in Europe. Unless you’re buying directly from somewhere like Grasscity, it’s difficult to tell the difference. A Chinese made bong and a bong from America might look exactly the same; you’re not going to notice the difference until you get to pick it up for the first time, or when you drop it. This is why it’s best to err on the side of caution and avoid purchasing your pieces from Craigslist.

There are of course other things to consider, but these are the main things to look out for. If you want to avoid the hassle of trying to distinguish between high quality and crap, then you can always just go here.
