Cannabis is legal in more places than before, but that doesn’t mean that undercover cops are no longer a problem for a lot of people. Chances are, you might know someone, or know of someone who was busted by an undercover cop. Luckily, there are ways to spot an undercover cop, and avoid getting busted. Some of this information comes from ex undercover cop Barry Cooper, via nevergetbusted.com
Cops Don’t Have To Tell You That They Are Cops
One of the most common misconceptions about undercover cops is that they have to tell you that they’re cops. That’s how it’s always portrayed on TV and movies. According to Cooper, this is not the case. Cops not only do not have to tell you that they are cops, they also love that people think that they do. All they have to do is say “no I’m not a cop”, then make the bust when you buy weed from them.
Just Because He Partakes With You Doesn’t Mean He’s Not A Cop
According to Cooper, it’s really easy for cops to feign smoking weed, particularly if it’s a joint. All you have to do is not inhale. Suck the smoke into your mouth and out through your nose. To the untrained eye, it will look like you are inhaling. He says there is one way to tell: offer them a bong rip. There’s no way to fake that, I don’t care how good you think you are.
Is His Lingo Off?
If your hookup’s lingo seems a little corny or outdated, then you should probably put your guard up. I’m pretty sure that no undercover cop is going to use the term “dank”. They will probably use terms no one really uses anymore like mary jane. They may also use popular terms incorrectly, like asking if you want to be hooked up with a doobie (yes that actually happened to a friend of mine).
Is He Insistent On Meeting In The Same Place Despite You Asking To Change Locations?
Normally, any chill hookup will be okay with you asking to meet up in different spots. They know that it’s stupid to meet in the same gas station parking lot over and over again. If you suspect something is up, ask your hookup to meet you elsewhere because reasons (you’re running out of gas, running late for work, etc). If he’s cool with it, then you’re good to go. If he throws a fit, then there’s a good chance he’s setting you up for a sting.
If He Seems Completely Unconcerned About Discretion
Every smart dealer is a little bit paranoid, and for good reason. No one wants to get busted for selling drugs. If your hookup seems completely unconcerned with keeping his operation on the downlow, this is a definite red flag. If he doesn’t seem to worry about being busted, then that probably means that he’s not going to, i.e., he’s a cop.
So, What Should I Do?
Now you suspect that your hookup may be an undercover cop, what do you do now? First of all, stop going through them! You don’t want to go to jail! Try talking to your friends, or other people that you know go through this person. Tell them your suspicions. If someone vouches for them, “they’re my homie, I’ve known them since grade school!”, then there’s a chance you’re being paranoid. If you guys compare notes and come to the same conclusion, then you might have trouble.
