Support for cannabis legalization has never been higher than today. A recent poll showed that 57% of adults in the US support legalizing cannabis. Legalization is on the ballot in eight US states in the upcoming election.
It Wasn’t Called “Marijuana” Until A Century Ago
Cannabis wasn’t always referred to as marijuana. The exact origins of the name “marijuana” are unknown, but the name first came into being in the early 20th century around the time cannabis was criminalized in the US. Cannabis sativa was grown and classified before cannabis indica. Indica was first classified in 1785 by French biologist Jean-Baptiste de LaMarck. Sativa was first classified by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. Indica is believed to have originated in or around India.

As a recent study showed, people who use cannabis are more likely to be physically active, than people who do not. They were also found to have a lower BMI than nonsmokers.
